The decision of the European Court must be a new message for the Government to launch more effective coordinated interagency action toward de-occupation–Giorgi Gakharia

The Head of Government commented on the final decision in the Georgia vs Russia case to be announced today by the European Court of Human Rights.

According to the Prime Minister, today is one of the most important days in Georgia’s contemporary history in that it marks the first instance when an international court assesses the Russo-Georgian War in 2008.

“This decision is and will always remain a result of 12 years of hard work from our citizens, the staff of the Justice Ministry, and specialists. Of course, we are confident that the decision will be fair. Besides compensating our affected citizens-and that will serve as the foundation for further protecting their rights internationally-it will mark the first instance of an international court assessing the 2008 War. Besides, this decision places additional obligations on us as a government, and we must understand that we must, in the nearest future, take concrete steps toward coordinated interagency work seeking the country’s de-occupation. And we have a concrete plan in this direction, one that we will present to the public in the near future. I reiterate that this decision marks the first instance when an international court assesses the Russo-Georgian War in 2008, and it must be a new message for the Georgian Government to launch more effective coordinated interagency action toward de-occupation”, - the Head of Government said.
